PERFORMANCE LAB an open call for participation
ARE YOU INTERESTED IN DEVELOPPING YOUR OWN PERFORMANCE WORK IN A POLITICAL CONTEXT? CHECK OUT WHAT IS HERE TO OFFER:
WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
The lab is a six month long process in trying out performance ideas. It is intended to all who want to develop their own work while testing their performing potentials. It is not a classical workshop where someone teaches you new skills but more about exploring why in which one to use. We devote a lot of time to researching personal material, clarifying motives and reasons for staging. You need to use your own imagination, intuition, presence, energy and deepen your knowledge, experience and skills. Everything you create and practice at the lab is your own idea. Your main goal is to find your content and your implementation strategy. There is no rule in this process other than “learning-by-doing.” No previous experience is needed, rather motivation, energy and focus.
STRUCTURE
First we choose a topic. Afterwards each creates a stage situation and presents it in front of other participants. They are completely independent and free in methods and strategy. After the performance, we all comment on what we’ve experienced. The performer only listens without explaining themselves. They can freely decide what to take into account for the next performing scene. This is how we continue for the rest of the lab. Any approach to performing and commenting should include some kind of participants’ own idea of political awareness. Each session will be opened by a one hour warm-up and connecting time. There will be snacks and drinks provided. You will be invited to leave voluntary donations.
TIMETABLE
The lab will happen one weekend per month, Saturday and Sunday, 7 hours per day in Newyorck im Bethanien. The exact hours will be determined together at the first session.
The dates: JAN 25-26, FEB 8-9, MAR 8-9, APR 12-13, MAY 10-11, JUN 14-15.
An event with a public showing will be scheduled in September.
HOW TO JOIN?
Write us an email entitled “PERFORMANCE LAB”. In it try to present yourself and explain why would you like to join the lab and a bit about your background (biography, possible performing experience, political work, identities, native language, mother tongue, class etc. – whatever you feel comfortable to share). The lab is suitable for 10 to 15 participants. In case of a lot of interest, the participants will be chosen based on a bigger diversity of the group. You should only write if you know that you can attend at least full five out of six weekends. Commitment is the most important value of this process. Feel free to ask questions as well.
Please contact us until 18th JAN.
